From getting there to knowing what’s next: practical design during ONS

Signeage · Graphic design

About the project

With thousands of people attending ONS, there is a lot of practical information visitors need before and during the event; from getting to the venue and finding the right hall, to knowing what’s happening in the evening and where to eat.

I worked on a range of communication materials designed to make the ONS experience easier to navigate and help visitors find useful information at the moment they needed it.

Approach

I designed a series of digital and printed information materials, adapting each one to its specific purpose and setting.

This included bus route information showing how to get to and from ONS, foyer screens highlighting useful resources such as the ONS app and Energy Agenda publication, and printed materials with practical information for visitors.

For the venue itself, I created three-sided posters with information about each hall, helping visitors quickly understand what was happening where. I also developed materials highlighting the evening activities at ONS+ and created a practical food guide covering the options available around the ONS area.

The focus throughout was on making information easy to find, quick to understand and useful in the context where it was being seen.

The result was a connected set of practical communication materials that helped visitors find their way, plan their day and make the most of ONS.

From the journey to and from the venue to choosing a hall, finding food or discovering what was happening after hours, the materials gave visitors useful information across multiple touchpoints, both digitally and as print materials.
